About

Why we built this

Search "Xiamen" in English and you get the same recycled list: Gulangyu, South Putuo Temple, Zengcuo'an. All real places — and all experienced in the worst possible way if you follow generic advice: wrong ferry, wrong hours, wrong entrance, elbow-to-elbow with tour groups.

Meanwhile, the Xiamen we live in — the 6am oyster sellers at the Eighth Market, the coastal road at sunrise before the rental bikes run out, the sha cha noodle broth that's been simmering since before you woke up — exists almost entirely in Chinese, on apps you can't read, behind QR codes you can't scan.

SmartXiamen translates that city. Not the language — the access.

Who we are

We're a small crew of Xiamen locals — born here or long-settled — who like showing this city off. The guides are researched on foot and updated when things change. When you book a local guide through us, you're matched with someone from this crew: a real person we know, not a marketplace stranger.

What we promise

  • No sponsored recommendations. Nobody pays to be in a guide. Ever.
  • Specific or nothing. "Try the local seafood" is useless. We name shops, dishes, hours and prices.
  • Updated, not abandoned. Places close, rules change (visa policy especially). Every guide shows its last-updated date.
  • Honest about the misses. If something is overrated, we say so — and tell you what to do instead.
